After five years of planning by community leaders including the Network of Asian-American Organizations and the Asian American Chamber of Commerce, the Asian-American Resource Center (AARC) is poised to be a dynamic new center of culture and commerce for Austin's fast-growing Asian-American population. With a 15-acre site already acquired, $5 million in Proposition 4 funding will help the AARC fund construction of a new cultural center, classrooms and a library for educational programming, and a display hall showcasing traditional and contemporary Asian art and cultural artifacts. When fully established, the AARC is expected to create over 1,000 new jobs and an overall economic impact of over $20 million per year.
