The Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC) is to be dedicated to the preservation, creation, presentation, and promotion of Mexican American cultural arts and heritage. Through education and community participation, the MACC will foster an understanding and appreciation of Chicano, Native American, and other Latino cultures and their artistic expressions. The programs and education curriculum will include the areas of visual art, theater, dance, literature, music, and multi-media. $5 million in Proposition 4 funds will help construct the MACC on a site along the shore of Town Lake, southeast of downtown Austin. Ultimately the MACC will include an eight-hundred-seat theater, an outdoor Plaza and performance space, and an education, exhibit, and rehearsal facility.
